How Much Does Reformer Pilates Cost? What Sets the Price
In the same city the price per session can triple. Here's where the difference comes from, and how to judge a studio by what it charges.

If you've been researching reformer Pilates prices you're probably confused. Within the same district the price per session can double or triple. We won't give you a number in this article (we'll explain why in a moment) but we will explain where the difference comes from, so you know what you're looking at when you get a quote.
Four things that set the price
1. Group size
This is the biggest variable. How many people one instructor handles at once directly sets the cost per session.
- Private (1:1): the most expensive. The instructor's attention is entirely yours.
- Duo (1:2): roughly two thirds of a private. Very efficient if the two people are at similar levels.
- Small group (1:4–1:6): the best value per session.
- Large group (1:8+): cheap, but correcting that many people on reformers isn't realistic. We don't recommend it for beginners.
Comparing two quotes without asking about group size is meaningless.
2. The instructor's training
"Pilates instructor" is not a protected title. The gap is wide:
- A weekend certificate (16–24 hours)
- Comprehensive equipment training (450+ hours, examined)
- A physiotherapy degree plus clinical Pilates training
If you have a disc problem, shoulder impingement or a postnatal picture, that gap is a safety matter rather than a question of class quality. Don't hesitate to ask; a good studio is happy to explain.
3. Equipment
A reformer's price varies considerably with its springs, straps and carriage bearings. On a poorly maintained reformer the spring resistance becomes unpredictable: which means the programme isn't loaded correctly. If complementary equipment is available (Cadillac, Chair, Ladder Barrel), the variety of the programme grows.
4. Package structure
The same session is priced differently in different packages. What to look at:
- Validity period. Will you use 8 sessions in one month or three? A short window burns credit when life gets in the way.
- Freeze rights. Holidays, illness, work travel.
- Cancellation policy. How many hours' notice keeps your credit?
- Transfer rights. Can you pass unused sessions to someone else?
A package that looks cheap per session gets expensive if the window is tight and the cancellation policy is strict.
Our packages
Ours is simple: packages of 8 and 16 sessions. For people who want to work as a two-person duo there is an 8-session package. We run no large group classes; every session is one-to-one or in a pair.
The same price list applies to everyone. Two things change it: how many sessions you buy, and whether you train alone or as a pair. In a duo the per-person rate is lower than one-to-one.
Rather than putting the figure on the site we give it at the first meeting, because it's better to talk through what you actually need first. The first assessment session is free and nothing is binding.
Questions to ask when you get a quote
Whichever studio you visit, these five questions make the price meaningful:
- How many people are in the class?
- What training does the instructor have? Any equipment certification?
- How long is the package valid?
- How many hours ahead can I cancel without losing the session?
- Is there a trial or assessment session, and is it paid?
Without the answers, if you only compare numbers you're likely to pick the cheap one and quit two months later.
One class is enough, the body tells the rest.
We assess in the first session and build the programme together. So you can see the studio and meet your instructor before joining.
